About the Stabat Mater
Date: | 2013 |
Performers: | Mixed choir and string orchestra |
Length: | 13.5 minutes |
Particulars: | This is Carlos Garcia's description of his Stabat Mater: The composition of music for this poem was conceived in a unique way, so that the text is sung without repetitions, in order to dignify each word with its own color. Because it is a poem of a meditative character, there is a certain rhythmic fidelity to the tranquil spirit of the slow times of medieval and Renaissance polyphony. The melodic motif presented by the sopranos at the beginning of this musical work recurs over time with subtle variations. The most expressive words are filled with harmonic colors of greater intensity and resonance. |
Textual variations: | All twenty stanzas are sung. The "Vatican'-version of the text has been used. |
