About the composer
This Bordesholmer Marienklage (Lament of Mary) is an assembled representation of the suffering of Maria, compiled in the end of the Middle Ages, which was performed as a play. The author made use of liturgical and semi-liturgical texts and melodies, like prayers, antiphons, sequences and hymns. The play contains a number of “Inserts”, amongst which the Stabat Mater, that were not present in the original manuscript. It is not clear to me, if the manuscript prescribes the insertion of the sequences of the Stabat Mater, or if this is a choice of the modern editors. The used text is the one that is published in “Analecta hymnica, vol. 54, p.312” and the melody is from “Laudus crucis attollamus”, which is attributed to Adam von Sanct Victor (died 1192).
