Aaron Garber
About the composer
Aaron Garber was born in 1973 in Weyers Cave, Virginia, USA, as the son of a dairy farmer. He gained experience singing in various choirs and obtained a B.A. in Music in 1995, followed by a degree in Choral Conducting in 2000.
After spending some time as a full-time farmer, he now dedicates himself to music as a composer and serves as the Director of Church Music for the College Evangelical Lutheran Church in Knoxville.
Garber’s Stabat Mater composition was the winning piece of the Raymond W. Brock Student Composition Competition in 2001 and had its world premiere at the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association in March 2001.

| Particulars: | This Stabat Mater is structured around the first two words of three stanzas stabat mater (1), eia mater (9) and sancta mater (11). These words are sung alternately by the male and female sections of the choir, creating a subtle and continuous drone-like foundation for the melody. This effect bears resemblance to the mesmerizing prayers recited by Tibetan monks. |
