Omar Yagoubi
About the composer
Omar Yagoubi was born in 1957 in Lens, France. He started his pianio studies at the age of 7, and studied with Aldo Ciccolini. In 1987 he was awarded the title of “best French soloist player”. During his career he played in more than 35 countries. He then returned to France to devote himself to composing. Amongst his compositions are a piano concerto, symphonic poems, chamber music and two oratorios. Undoubtedly his compositions are influenced by his mixed origin (Algerian father, Polish mother).

| Particulars: | The Stabat Mater is divided into 12 parts. The music is worth listening to, to my ears it is modern, but not in an extreme way. According to Omar Yagoubi himself it is inspired by the Stabat Mater of Francis Poulenc and the sacred works of Mozart. |
| Textual variations: | The "Vatican"-version of the text is used, but the text of stanzas 17 and 18 come from the "Analecta"-version. |

| More info: | Private registration of a concert performance, which Omar Yagoubi was so kind as to send to me. It is the registration of the first performance during a concert on November 25, 2003, in Dunkerque, France. About a year later he sent me a beautiful 3-CD box called “The Garden of Delights” (after the painting by Jeroen Bosch) containing a number of the works he composed and offering a fine view of his musical interests and possibilities. |
