About the Stabat Mater
Date: | The original piece dates back before 1507, the transcription is dated 2016 |
Performers: | solo chant |
Length: | 7.33 minutes |
Particulars: | In the Stifts Library in St Gallen in Switzerland Klara von Querenberg discovered the original composition by friar Gregor Baumhof OSB, called Index 546. The CD tells me: Codex 546, Stiftsbibliotek St Gallen, before1507, an old prayer book? Thanks to Michael Dölker (another Stabat Mater fan) I was able to find the original pages on the internet with text and music in Hufnagel-schrifft. Klara made a transcript of the whole work. In the performance on CD she accompanies herself on the lute. I think the original is a variation on the plain Gregorian Stabat Mater chant. It is good to listen to. |
Textual variations: | The "Analecta"-version of the text has been used except for the 19th stanza. All twenty stanza's are sung. In the original text the 5th and the 6th stanza have been exchanged. |
Colour bar: |
As Klara von Querenberg is the only singer and player there is no need for a colourbar. |
