Piret Pormeister-Rips
About the composer
Piret Pormeister-Rips was born in 1965 in Valga, Estonia. She graduated at Tallinn Music High School in Piano in 1984 and at Tallinn State Conservatory in the piano class of Liina Jõks in 1988. In 2004, she graduated on the Estonian Academy of Music in Composition. She continued her studies Music Education in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
Pormeister-Rips has written more than 100 songs for various choir types and soloists, numerous of them on her own lyrics. Her musical First Christmas was premiered in 2002, her Stabat Mater in 2004, cantata Bells of the land of souls in 2007. One of her most performed choral songs Paradisi gloria (the final stanza of Stabat Mater) was an obligatory piece in the 5th State Competition for Students Mixed Choirs in 2005.

Particulars: | Mr. Pavel Brochin was so kind to inform me about this composition. His choir, Audienda-Choir Krefeld, was invited to take part in the 5th Rhine-Westphalia Choral Festival in Krefeld. He was looking for a contemporary Estonian composition, and his friends recommended him Piret Rips' Stabat Mater. Piret Rips made a new orchestral version. The first one was for string orchestra only. His choir performed this work in September 2006. |
Textual variations: | All twenty stanzas are sung. The Vatican- as well as the Analecta-version of the Latin text have been used. The composer added extra text between part 4 and part 5. it is the first part from Passion narrative.
