Kaj Chydenius
About the composer
Kaj Chydenius was born in Juankoski, Finland, in 1939. He was one of the pioneers of the left-wing “New-Song” movement that emerged in Finland in the 1960s. He has written an enormous body of music for the stage, often for a specific need (e.g. education). In addition to socially conscious songs, he has set a considerable body of contemporary Finnish poetry to music.
His Stabat Mater was composed for Rajaton, of which his son Jussi is one of the singers.

| Textual variations: | The stanzas 5 and 13 to 19 are not used. Instead, the alto sings a poem by the Finnish poet Aale Tynni (Marian kiusaus - the temptation of Mary), about Mary watching her son being crucified. |
