About the composer
Knut Nystedt was born in Oslo, Norway, in 1915. He studied composition with Aaron Copland and was organist in Oslo from 1946 to 1982 and professor of choral conducting at the university of Oslo from 1965 to 1985. Nystedt is regarded as one of the most influential composers in Norway and has received many honours, national and international. He strove to incorporate new vocal techniques, but also to make his works accessible for choirs of a modest standard.
