Frantisek Xaver Thuri
About the composer
Frantisek Xaver Thuri was born in Prague in 1939. He is a professor of oboe at the Prague Conservatory. He began composing as a music student. Most of his works are written in the Baroque style which has earned him the reputation of being “the last living Baroque composer”.
About the Stabat Mater
Soprano, Tenor, Alto, Bass, Choir and Orchestra
He composed the Stabat Mater in 1965 and in 1968 he finished his Requiem. František Xaver Thuri: "I wrote both works in the baroque style that has been my inspiration and muse throughout my entire life. In spite if the gravity of the themes, there is not only sorrow and despair in the music, but there are also - I hope - echoes of the joyful Christian belief in the higher meaning of human existence". The work is divided into twelve sections.
As far as I can hear the "Analecta"- version of the text is used.
