About the composer
Trond Kverno was born in Oslo, Norway, in 1945. He studied at the Oslo Conservatory of Music, where he graduated in church music, music theory and choir direction. He was a teacher, and from 1994 professor in church music, at the Norwegian State Academy of Music where he focussed on liturgical organ playing and composition for use in church services. He likes to compose for the congregation, where the singers have no musical expertise. 27 of his hymns were included in the Norwegian Hymn Book of 1983.
About the Stabat Mater
In accordance with his view to composing this setting of the Stabat Mater is simple and melodious. Any choir should be able to sing it.
The "Vatican" text is used, but the stanzas 11 to 14 are omitted.
