Arjan van Dijk
About the composer
Arjan van Dijk was born on April 21, 1968. He started studying violin, but then switched to musicology, which he concluded with credit by writing a thesis on computational analysis of the rhythmic organisation of late mediaeval polyphony.
Arjan van Dijk sings tenor in large choir (Bach Choir Holland), but also in the smaller vocal ensemble Sfumato, of which he is the conductor. He is still studying in both aspects. He is enthousiastic about singing music from before 1600, but also likes more modern music, Poulenc for instance. These influences can be heard in his own compositions like the Stabat Mater. At the moment he works for the BUMA/STEMRA, the Dutch organization for musical copyrights.

| Particulars: | The Stabat Mater is divided in 10 parts and the structure is indeed consistent with the textual scheme. The text is sung without much repetition and the music is worth listening to, using some dissonants to stress some parts of the poem. |
