About the composer
Gabriel Jackson (born 1962 in Hamilton, Bermuda) is an English composer. Gabriel Jackson was a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral before studying composition at the Royal College of Music, first under Richard Blackford, then with John Lambert. Particularly acclaimed for his choral works, his liturgical pieces are in the repertoires of most of Britain’s cathedral and collegiate choirs and he is a frequent collaborator with the leading professional groups of the world. From 2010-2013 he was Associate Composer to the BBC Singers. In 2014 his hour-long The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, commissioned for the 750th anniversary of Merton College, Oxford, was premiered in its chapel. May 2015 saw the premiere at the Latvian National Opera of Spring Rounds for soprano, choir and orchestra, commissioned by the Riga-based youth choir Kamer for their 25th anniversary.

| More info: | This CD, titled In Sorrow’s Footsteps, has two settings settings of Stabat Mater, (by Gabriel Jackson from 2017 and Giovanni Luigi Palestrina from ca. 1590 ) and two settings of Miserere (by James MacMillan from 2009 and Palestrina about four hundred year before). Furthermore it contains Ave Maria and Super Flumina Babylonis by Palestrina. The CD was a present from Mr. Hubert Maillard from Switzerland. Thank you so much. I am happy about it, it ‘s wonderful old and new music with the same texts. |
