Albert de Klerk
About the composer
Albert de Klerk was born in Haarlem in 1917. De Klerk was organist at St. Joseph’s Church in Haarlem, playing it’s Adema organ from the time he was 16 until his death. He studied Organ and Piano at the Conservatory in Amsterdam. Between 1946 and 1964 he was a teacher at the Institute for Church Music in Utrecht. From 1965 till 1985 he taught Organ at the Amsterdam Conservatory. As the organist of the city of Haarlem, he performed at least 6,400 times, playing a multitude of improvisations. De Klerk was self-taught as a composer.
