The Danish chorals are given in English translation. Latin stanzas are given by stanza number only. Repetitions in the text are omitted.
Part 1
I) Opening chorus: The mother was standing at the food of the cross, her pain and fear were in her mind as her child was dying. The child was her beloved son. Why has the mother to suffer for ever? When will peace come? Jesus died on the cross to the mother’s painful crying.
– Soprano: Stanzas 1 and 2
II) Jazzduet: The spire of court, all is broken, love has gone cold!
Justice has deformed, innocence been defeated for violence force!
Justice and injustice walk hand in hand where warriors rule.
Innocent people, being defeated where rulers are the factors of death!
Lies become truth! Truth becomes dust! Time dresses the seat of judgement; stones have to bleed for this!!
Part 2
– Chorus, alternated by soprano with stanza 3, line 2: Power lessens, sorrows in the fight of death. The mothers love was growing. The son felt lonely, thought he was lost.
– Soprano: Stanza 4
– Chorus The life of spirit gets strong in love. The hope of the well is inexhaustible.
– Soprano: Stanza 6
– Chorus: The child, innocent sacrifice, victim of human contempt! The follies rule the world without spirit or sense. The mother’s silent scream is with us every second. Is she the hope of our world?
Part 3
III) Male Jazz-singer: Jesus Christ hangs on the cross, wounded, hurt, without no hope. Everybody left him, he was lonely: They have all rejected him, except the two Marias!
Bleeding wounds, and wounded soul, all his life was passing by. He said “I’m thirsty”: he got vinegar. Everybody left him, he was lonely: They have all rejected him, except the two Marias!
He was crucified, to take our sins! We could live in peace, make the paradise on earth. Mother Mary and every mother has given us the way of love, the way of security and comfort for the little child
Bleeding wounds, and wounded soul, They have all rejected him! Wounded, hurt, without no hope. We don’t see the cross in our world!
Part 4
– Chorus: as Part 1, a)
IV) Female Jazz-singer: God created women’s life as a wonder of the world. Children’s growing, beautifully, safely, like the seed in spring.
Purest mind and heart of gold, always loves with all her soul. Moves away the pain and sorrows for the child, that’s mother’s love.
Children grow like tiny flowers, they need care, the need safetyness, the love from the heart. Grown up man, have you forgotten love?
Life could be so beautiful, nice and warm as paradise. Rulers hearts exchanged for cynicism, why? I just don’t know.
Part 5
– Soprano: Stanza 7, 8, 9
Part 6
V) Female Jazz-singer: How has the world come such a mess for life? Isn’t it too dangerous to give birth to men in this world? Wouldn’t it be better if all men stopped acting like men? Better if the love was the leading truth?
Holy Mother, your love is life. Let there be hope, let there be happiness. Wouldn’t it be better if all men stopped acting like men? Better if the love was the leading truth?
Children are always the innocent victims in all wars! Children are the victim, victim for men’s disdain (contempt)! We all listen to the silent scream of pain from the mothers all over the world!
Part 7
VI Chorus: Holy Mother, comfort of life! Let there be hope, joy and happiness. Warriors fight without thinking, without respect for life, without a faith. The victims are bleeding, living dead! Give your strength from the ocean of love!
Part 8
– Soprano: Stanza 15, 16, 17
Part 9
– Chorus: The world defaced by war, where people get unhealed wounds on the soul. Why does the mother have to suffer forever?
VII) Male Jazz-singer: Mother, please don’t cry!! I said: Mother, please don’t cry for me!! It’s a dreadful time, a hopeless time, it’s a horror time going on your mind! Mother, I’m safe with the Lord!
Mother, please don’t cry!! I said: Mother, please don’t cry for me!! You will see me die in front of you! It will hurt you, just like an open wound. Mother, I’m safe with the Lord!
Light will break from the night, night disappears from day. Unborn child in the womb, will be born, from night to day. All life that lives, knows the night before the light comes through – the light comes through!
Part 10
VIII) Female Jazz-singer: I lost my man and child, for nothing, in a stupid war, ’bout nothing. I don’t understand my Lord, why is it so?
I suffer every night and day, I miss them every night and day. When will they stop this war? Please tell me Lord!
Who will comfort me, in my dearest lost? Every mother’s heart will be broken in pieces when they lose, – lose the child they have born!
I’m feeling a sense of guilt, for nothing? My child went in this war ’bout nothing. Now he is gone and dead! Why is it so, Lord?
The world is mad; with all stupidness rollin’! All sense has gone, there’s a long way to heaven! The future is dizzy! Please stop it now!
The world is sad with all children dying! The world is bad with all mothers crying! This shouldn’t happen!! Please stop it now!
Mothers’ tears like leaves falling down, from the trees in the autumn. Mothers have cried for two thousand years!! Haven’t they suffered enough? Listen, please! I’m screaming!
Women! Do you want in the future: to be a mother in a world where violence and stupidness rule? Listen, please! I’m screaming!
Part 11
– Chorus, alternating with soprano (stanzas 18): Let the cross give us strength and help us to remove contempt. Jesus crucifixion, the mother’s pain, was to remove all of our sin.
