Giacomo Sellitto (Naples , July 28, 1701 – Naples , November 20, 1763) was a Italian composer, of both sacred music and music for the theatre, and singing teacher.  Naples was one of the main musical centres of Italy and even of Europe in the first half of the 18th century. The music of so many Neapolitan composers of the 18th century is not yet explored. That means also that we know so little about composers like Sellitto. He was a minor brother of composer Giuseppe Sellitto. Giacomo has definitely served as a chaplain master at the College of Nobles( maestro di cappella) in Naples. He wrote among others 72 harpsichord escapes (fuga’s) , a Stabat Mater, the opera La Gineviefa and the tragedy for martyr Santa Perpetua. Read more and listen.
