Marek Jasiński
About the composer
Marek Jasiński was born in Stargard Szczeciński, Poland, in 1949. He studied composition and conducting at the State Higher School of Music in Poznań and at the Poznań Academy, from which he graduated in 1979. He then started a career as composer and academic teacher, first in the Sczcecin Branch of Poznań Music Academy, and from 1995 at the Bydgoszcz Music Academy where he became a professor in 1999.
For his compositions he received numerous awards. Among his compositions are symphonic works and chamber music, but the majority is sacred choral works.

| Particulars: | The Stabat Mater is not divided into clear sections, though three different parts can be heard. It opens with a long orchestral introduction, creating a tragic, almost "gothic" atmosphere. The choir then sings the first two stanzas, concluded with parts of the first stanza, using musical themes from the intro. The third part consists of the last three stanzas, set on a more hopeful melody. |
| Textual variations: | The Latin text is a mixture of "Vatican" and "Analecta" versions. The 19th stanza of the "Vatican" and the 18th stanza of the "Analecta" version are used. The last stanza includes the final "Amen". |

| More info: | This CD contains Polish sacred works, mostly by contemporary composers, all recorded for the first time. It was recorded at the Gaude Mater Festival in 2002.
