Iacobus Regnart
About the composer
Iacobus Regnart (1540 – 1599) was a Dutch composer, who worked at the Court in Prague for Rudolf II and later at the Innsbrück Court for Archduke Ferdinand as music director. He must have been very popular as several collections of his work appeared in print and sold so fast that new printings were necessary. The Stabat Mater à 5 in die B.M.V. perdolentis is part of a collection of Marian motets, for four to eight voices, the Mariale, which was published in 1588 or 1590.
