Raffaele Serra
About the composer
Raffaele Serra was born in 1948 and lives in Milan. Composer and sound researcher, he released more than 30 albums. He composed music for theatre, dance and multimedia works. In the early 70’s he started to experiment with Electronic Music based on analogue synthesizers, tapes and other devices; also he worked as sound and light technician and assistant director with many avantgarde theatre companies. In the 80’s he studied and worked with Christina Kubisch and takes part to some Brian Eno’s stages. His continuing studies and musical research took him to Amsterdam, where he met the researcher Walter Maioli at “Het Heinde Van De Wereld”, a multimedia center directed by the anthropologist Fred Gales. He released additions of sound for the danish painter/sculptor Nes Lerpa’s environmental exhibitions. He composed soundtracks for several cult’s silent film.

Particulars: | Raffaele Serra’s Stabat Mater is a music-based multimedia work, built on the first nine stanzas and the last stanza of the Vatican version of the text. The work has three movements. Every movement has three stanzas, exposed two times, except the third one where the 20th stanzas has been added as final. |
Textual variations: | Only 10 stanza's have been used, the first nine stanzas and the 20th stanza. After the Ämen "follows a "Hallelujah". |
