Milosz Magin
About the composer
Milosz Magin was born in 1929 in Lodz, Poland and studied piano, composition and conducting at the Higher School of Music in Warsaw. As a pianist he won prizes at several Concourses. In the fifties he left Poland, and finally settled in Paris in 1960. His career as a international renowned pianist is interrupted in 1963 by a serious car crash, in which he broke his wrist. He started all over, recovering his technique, and by 1968 even recorded the complete works of Chopin. Nevertheless, the accident also starts him composing again in earnest, which he kept doing to the end of his life. He composed pieces for piano, symphonies and concertos for piano, violin, clarinet and cello. Together with his wife he founded the International Piano Competition Milosz Magin, taking place in Paris every two years. He died of a heart attack on March 4, 1999 and was buried next to Chopin’s grave in Paris.
