About the composer
Jan Erik Hansen is born in 1949 and lives in Denmark. At the moment he is especially interested in church music and he already composed four oratorios, four masses and a Stabat Mater. | Particulars: | The composition is an interesting mixture in styles and languages. Not only you find classical chorals sung in Danish and a soprano singing stanzas of the Latin poem, the work is interwoven with blues type songs in English. It is divided into eleven sections and in the final section all parties come together in a gospel-like finale. Hansen's idea is to extend the meaning of the poem from the middle ages to today, to make it a tribute to all mothers who lost a child and to make it clear that in war there are no winners, only losers. |
