About the composer
Andries Clement, Dutch composer, was born in 1943. He studied choral conducting at the Amsterdam Conservatory and Musicology at the University of Utrecht. He was a teacher at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Zwolle. In 1975 he became director of the Brabant Conservatory, and later of the Fontys School of the Arts in Tilburg. He has led many choirs such as the Toonkunstkoor Zutphen, the Amsterdam student choir and the Eindhovens kamerkoor. He was the founder of the Amersfoorts Kamerkoor and the Brabantkoor. His music is characterized by a modern and very tonal idiom, and remarkably fit to sing. His compositional choices were determined by the extent to which singers could identify with the text. Andries Clement died in 2015.
About the Stabat Mater
Mixed choir, children's choir, soprano
Andries Clements Stabat Mater is a large-scale composition in terms of length and instrumentation: children's choir, soprano solo and double choir. Various styles alternate in his Stabat Mater: Gregorian melodies, 16th century polyphony, Poulenc-like consonances and modernist clusters.
The Vatican-version of the text has been used. All twenty stanzas are sung.
|CD 1:||De stem van mijn hart, Koormuziek van Andries Clement|
|About this CD:|
This cd, recorded in 2016 in Lambertuskerk in Raamsdonk (the Netherlands), is a production from CONVOCAND. The foundation aims to bring the work of artists in Noord-Brabant to the attention of a wide audience. De stem van mijn hart (translation: the voice of my heart) was one of the first activities of CONVOCAND. The works of composer Andries Clement, who died in 2015, were deliberately chosen here. In his compositions, Clement always sought an interaction with poetry. We received the CD as a present from Mrs. Clement.
